“Kissaru Wadaan”; is the Maldives way of building a boat. This unique approach of construction of boats was invented in the Maldives centuries back. The craftsmanship has been passed on from generation to generation. The boats of the Carpe Diem Maldives Fleet have all been built by Waterline Pvt. Ltd in Raa atoll. The main carpenter Fulhu is a fourth generation carpenter. All the boats have been built by hand fully out of wood (imported mostly from Malaysia) Even though the boats have an outline drawing and floor plan, the hull structure, most important part of the boat, is built without any drawing purely counting on the knowledge and experience of the main carpenter. The whole construction process takes about 18 months depending on the amount of carpenters and of course the availability of materials and funds.
